Aboriginal Culture Tours
(Being Aboriginal in today's world)
Inspiring walking tours with Sharman about her way of being Aboriginal in our modern world
Sharman Apununga Parsons
Sharman is an Aboriginal woman descended from the Anmatyerre people of Central Australia and the Kambubal people of the New England area in NSW. She is passionate about her Aboriginality and has learnt deeply from traditional elders in many parts of Australia. She will enchant you with her understanding of Aboriginal philosophy and the land in which it resides.
Come and gain some insights into a way to incorporate Aboriginal philosophies into being an Australian Aboriginal person:
*Who Aboriginal people are
*Valuing the natural world
*Relaxing with bush aromas
*Local food, medicine and fibre plants
*Delicious bush food refreshments
Our purpose at Cicada Woman Tours is to try to give you a sense of the way in which Australia's First People thought about themselves and their environment which allowed them to live here for so long at peace with the land.
Join Sharman to learn an Aboriginal woman's interpretation of the philosophies of
connection to land of Australia's First People. Learn how to behave in and think about that land. Sharman's tour takes you well below the material aspects of Aboriginal culture into a realm not known to the vast majority of Australians and immerses you into connections between the natural world and ourselves.
Her tours always elicit responses from guests such as “I will never forget the experience” and “I was totally relaxed and warmed by doing her tour” and “We were floating for days on the new experience and knowledge gained”.
Traditionally Australia's First People thought of themselves as part of nature. Their very being was inextricably linked with the world around them: landforms, watercourses, plant, animals and stars. This is their philosophy of life - the basis of their existence and way of life - which helped them to manage their relationships with the natural world, other people and the universe.
Sharman has listened to and learnt from many traditional people all over Australia, including from her father's family at Utopia, north of Alice Springs. She finds her meanings for life in the surrounding natural world and believes that even if you know nothing of your traditional land or culture, you can re-develop your Aboriginal spirit by tuning-in to the country where you are.
